Toby Lee Toby was born in Omaha, NE. During his childhood he spent a lot of time with his grandparents. His grandmother was a horticulturist and Toby helped her take care of her plants and the garden. He would assist his gram and aunts with harvest and canning.
His grandfather taught him to get the best out of everything, to fix things when they are broken and many other “old fashion values” that still apply and are very useful today.
When Toby was in elementary school his folks moved him and his sisters to a near by farm community. After high school Toby joined the Air Force, where he had his first experience with firearms. After serving his country Toby returned back to the farm community in Nebraska where he met his better half Melisa. They married and are living happily with their dog Ruger.
Toby has always been a “jack of all trades” with many different hobbies. His passion is with firearms and preparedness. In 2012 he was introduced to the world of podcasting. One spring day, he attended a shoot put on by one of the podcast he listened to. After meeting and talking to Toby, the host then invited Toby to join him on the podcast. There he met and quickly became friends with Sticks. In 2014 they both left that podcast and co-founded their current project. He also has a podcast with his wife that just began airing and he’s still not dead.
Sticks Survival Sticks was born on Lackland AF base in SanAntonio, TX. His parents divorced and he was then blessed with great step-parents on both sides to round out his family. Both his father and step-father were outdoorsmen and both of his families had garden's at home that they tended and then canned what they produced. He spent mostof hi s school age years in Tennessee, but also lived for short times in Georgia, Florida and upstate New York. As a child he was involved in Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts. He later moved to Michigan where he spent the next 18 years before moving back to Tennessee for a couple years and finally to Arkansas about 8 years ago.
He has been into out-of-doors stuff his entire life. He fired his first shots at about 7 years old, and actually owned his first gun, an Ithaca 20 gauge Single shot shotgun, at 9 years old. This was followed closely by a Savage Model 24. First handgun was an H&R Arms 9 shot 22 revolver which he still owns today that was passed to him from his Grandfather. Another grandfather also gave him his first High power rifle, a sporterized Mosin-Nagant.
Currently living in Arkansas with his better half of 8 years, Edith, he still enjoys the outdoors and spends time camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and hunting (mostly deer & turkey but will take the occasional squirrel or other small game). He also volunteers for Project Appleseed as an Instructor-In-Training III, the Arkansas Appleseed State Coordinator as of 2014, and is an active member of the Crittenden County Search and Rescue (SAR) team for his area. His son and grandchildren still live in Michigan along with his mother and step-father, so he does travel up there occasionally along with traveling the country while on vacation. He has other siblings scattered throughout the country.
Overall, Sticks has been podcasting for about 18 months. He started off doing segments on other shows before co-founding (with Toby) the current show in March of 2014. As for his co-host, he met Toby while working on another podcast and the two fast became friends. As for Squirrel he met him in the forest while he and Edith were on a Kayaking trip in the beautiful Ozarks of Arkansas.
Squirrel Born in the Ozarks to a western red squirrel mother and a southern grey squirrel father. His parents were a little nutty so he had to learn to survive on his own. He managed to squeak through his education, graduating from Acorn High School and joining up with the Squirrel Forces as soon as he was able. He served the country dutifully for his required tour, but as soon as he realized that his superiors were quickly going nuts, he decided to take his skills elsewhere and did not re-enlist.
He currently travels the country seeking fun, adventure and any kind of survival/firearms instruction he can find. Although you wouldn't know it from listening to him talk with the boys, he is very educated and loves learning. He also attends as many Appleseed shoots as he can just to listen in on the history (they don't let him shoot very often) and can often be seen in the photos.
When home, he can be found living in an old oak tree, and spends his time pestering anyone he can find, especially those who are a bit nutty themselves (explaining this trio). His favorite thing to do is to help his friends, and if you are ever wanting him to visit you, just make his favorite snack, pecan pie, and he will almost always show up.
